Social status and stress: from hamsters to humans

Kimberly Bress

Stress is powerful! It motivates us to do the things we must do in order to survive and move forward. However, it also has a dark side. When stress becomes too much to handle, it can have seriously negative effects on our health (both mental and physical). What does stress do to our brains, and what makes some creatures more resilient than others? This talk will explore some research done in hamsters, and explain what it might tell us about how we humans experience and cope with stress.

Bio-Remedy: The International Genetically Engineered Machine at UTK

Ralph Laurel

We humans are good at making a mess. So good, in fact, we make messes that we can't even clean up. Sometimes, we have to resort to microorganisms that can convert harsh chemicals into less dangerous ones. That's what bioremediation is - utilizing biological tools to clean the environment. But Bio-Remedy sounds much cooler of a title, doesn't it?
