This Is Your Brain On Drugs

This is your brain on drugs: a stimulating discussion on street drugs from chemistry to cognition

This taste of science event is held in collaboration with the Addiction, Research, Treatment and Training (ARTT) Center of Excellence at UT Health San Antonio as well as the 12th annual meeting of Behavior, Biology, and Chemistry (BBC): Translational Research in Addiction.

Join us as we feature three addiction researchers in a lively discussion about the science behind drug addiction. We have invited three addiction researchers to share their work on tackling drug addiction.

Co-hosted with ARTT

The mission of the ARTT Center of Excellence is to promote addiction research, treatment, and training at UT Health San Antonio and facilitate the translation of discoveries in basic science to clinical care. ARTT brings together a diverse group of scientists, clinicians, and educators in order to identify and develop novel behavioral and pharmacological approaches to treating addiction. For more information, visit https://uthscsa.edu/artt/

The BBC conference is a two-day scientific meeting that focuses on translational aspects of addiction research among chemists, biologists, and behavioral scientists. The diversity of participants and attendees at this meeting provides a unique venue for interaction among different disciplines and in so doing promotes new and innovative approaches to medications discovery and development in addictions biology. Science Fail Fes

Sometimes people think that science is the antithesis of failure and a monolith of success. And, often, we only hear about the success in science: the innovative new treatment, the life-saving discovery, a novel pathway that will unlock the mysteries of disease… Surely success should be celebrated, but it can never fully be appreciated without understanding that failure is a large part of it. In science, failure is at the very core of its evidence base and a much-needed tool for development. It is something all scientists experience.

taste of science San Antonio is embracing failure in the month of October and partnering with our national taste of science collaborators to host an event that talks failure in science. Join us Wednesday, October 30th, 2019 for our version of Science Fail Fest. We will feature Pub style Science Fail Trivia- with a chance to win some really cool prizes!

Costumes are encouraged!!
